How to build a RC plane for beginners
One of the first things you're going to want to do is clear yourself a good amount of space to work in. You'll need to have adequate space to work, and also somewhere to store your plane while it's being built. Ideally, it would also be good if you had some sort of place where you can easily access your tools.
These are the things you'll need:
- Pliers
- Paint
- Wire tools
- Safety glasses
- Sandpaper
- Screwdriver
- Glue
Before you start, make sure that you have all the needed tools and materials. Aside from the tools above, it may also be good a good idea to have a knife blade or scissors. Any wiring tools would also be very useful, for jobs such as wiring the remotes, or the plane if needed. You'll want to organize all the different parts of your airplane kit. It's easy to drop and lose small pieces, so be very careful that nothing gets misplaced. You should keep your screws in a closed container as well to prevent them from rolling around and getting lost. It really is a good idea to sort out and organize your pieces before hand, as it will make it a lot easier to put you plane together, as you'll know where each of your pieces are (tires, fuselage, etc).
Now you're ready to start putting together your model. Most model kits will come with a manual with steps of how to put your rc plane together. It is very important that you follow these steps very closely. You're pieces will probably be numbered or marked in some order. Make sure that you start at the beginning and work your way through systematically. Skipping steps or saving them for later is definitely not a good idea. For any electronic assembly, you should very carefully study and follow the exact instructions on the manual when working on the electrical systems for the remote or the plane. If you're a beginner to electronics, you may want to ask a knowledgeable friend for help.
Some model RC planes are constructed from light wood, if this is the case with your plane, make sure that you lightly sand the rough edges of your plane before any painting or vinyls. Any rough areas on your plane will affect flight, so take a soft piece of sandpaper and gently rub it along the pieces of your plane. All that's left now is painting your RC plane, your model kit may come with paint or vinyls, or you may have to do it yourself. Once finished, take your plane out to a wide, open space, and take off!
